1.1 Background of the Study
Electoral malpractices, such as vote-buying, voter intimidation, ballot-box stuffing, and manipulation of results, are significant challenges to the democratic process in Nigeria. These malpractices undermine the credibility of elections and erode public trust in the democratic system. In Bida Local Government Area (LGA), Niger State, the occurrence of electoral malpractices has been a source of concern for both voters and political parties. This study seeks to assess the impact of these malpractices on public trust in democracy, focusing on their long-term effects on voter participation and the legitimacy of elected officials in Bida LGA.
